Update: 12/30/13

Greenwich police have identified the victim in last week’s hit-and-run accident as 21-year-old Meghan Beebe, of Middlebury.

They also have a 26-year-old Ridgefield man, identified as Vyacheslav Cherepov, in custody.

Police said Cherepov dragged Beebe’s body with his red Pontiac G6 in the Williams Street parking lot before fleeing the scene of the crime.

Cherepov, who works at a restaurant nearby the crime scene, was arrested when he returned to the crime of the scene on Sunday in the same vehicle he struck and killed Beebe with.

Cherepov was arraigned at Stamford Superior Court earlier today.

A 22-year-old Greenwich man is accused of stealing a local doctor’s prescription pad and using it to pick up narcotics at an in-town pharmacy.

Clay Woodruff, of 10 Hillside Drive, was charged with second-degree forgery, criminal attempt at illegal possession of narcotics and criminal attempt at obtaining a controlled substance by forgery.

Authorities said Woodruff was visiting the doctor’s office as a patient last year when he stole the unsecured prescription pad.  He then forged the doctor’s signature to obtain narcotics at a local pharmacy.

It’s unclear how police first became aware of the theft, which they said they were able to trace to Woodruff, but they arrested Woodruff at his parents’ $4 million in-town home around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday.

This is not the first time that Woodruff was arrested.  In August 2011 police in Fairfield charged him with breach of peace after he was involved in an altercation outside Friendly’s restaurant at 3671 Post Road.

Woodruff is scheduled to appear in court on January 15th.

He was charged with third degree assault, breach of peace and second-degree strangulation.

According to the company’s website, MetroWines is “a wholesaler of the premier classified growth from the world’s most important chateaux and wineries.”

Greenwich family whose home were robbed at gunpoint were targeted: Police

Greenwich police said a local woman who was robbed at gunpoint in her downtown home this week was targeted by the suspects.

Around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday a woman returned to her East Elm Street home she shares with her mother to find the elderly woman tied up.

The victim told officers she was at home when two male, Caucasians, wearing ski masks and dark clothing, entered through the front door, which was left unlocked.

One of the suspects hit her in the face with a handgun and demanded a large sum of cash.  After receiving the money, the suspects fled the home but not before bounding the woman’s hands and feet.

Authorities believe the suspects targeted the victim and her daughter, and one neighbor, who did not want to be identified, agreed with the police saying: “If you’re going after a house like that, especially in Greenwich, there’s something up.  You’ve got to have a reason.”

Other neighbors were quick to point out the large privacy fence surrounding the modest house, near Julian Curtis School, incinerating that the family had something to hide.

As of press time the suspects were still at large.

Not sure if there is any truth to this story, but the National Enquirer claims that Mary Tyler Moore is being abused and neglected by her husband, Dr. Robert Levine.

The magazine claims that the 77-year-old actress called Greenwich police nine times over the past seven months for incidents including, crippling falls and “verbal disputes” with her 59-year-old husband.

The tabloid claims that the last time police were called to the actress’ mansion was on January 20, when her husband refused to leave her home.  The responding officer wrote in his report: “[Mary] states her estranged husband co-owns the home but normally does not reside there.”

Meanwhile, there are no records of Levine ever being arrested by Greenwich police.

A 44-year-old male teacher at an all-girls private Catholic school in Greenwich is accused of having a sexual relationship with one of his students.

Michael Maida, a math teacher at Convent of the Sacred Heart, surrendered to Greenwich police this week following an investigation that he had sexual contact with a then 16-year-old student in 2009.

He was charged with second-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor.

The Catholic school released a statement on Tuesday saying they were informed of the investigation on January 23, 2014, at which time Maida, of Danbury, was placed on administrative leave.

“We have been cooperating fully with the authorities, who notified us today that Mr. Maida was arrested today in connection with the investigation,” Head of School Pamela Juan Hayes said in the statement.

“The school is deeply troubled by this shocking allegation but ill reserve judgment, as we all must, until the facts are made available through the important legal process now under way,” the statement continued.

Maida had taught math at the all-girls school for 17 years.

Authorities in Greenwich said a local man who was arrested yesterday on DUI charges is a fugitive from Florida.

Greenwich police arrested Paul Wahbeh Ardaji,  whose family owns several restaurants in Connecticut and Florida, including Toscana on Lewis Street, after he failed a sobriety test.

According to the police report, around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday an officer spotted Ardaji, who lives at 179 North Maple Avenue sitting in his car parked near the intersection of Railroad Avenue and Greenwich Avenue, with his keys in the ignition and his head resting on the steering wheel.

As the officer approached the vehicle to conduct a welfare check he noted the distinct smell of alcohol on Ardaji’s breathe.

The officer also stated in his report that Ardaji’s eyes appeared glassy and bloodshot.

A field sobriety test was administered, which Ardaji failed.

He was arrested on DUI charges and his bail was set at $5,000; however, while police were running a check on his Florida driver’s license they found out that Ardaji was wanted in Florida on felony charges.

Details in the Florida crime were not available at press time.

Ardaji is scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Stamford on March 31.

….And the award for Greenwich, Connecticut, BIGGEST racist goes to Kai Hedbabny!!!!!

$
0
0

Update

Mr. Hedbabny just came into my store to tell me that he is afraid of me.  I asked him why and he said because I threatened him. I asked him why would I threaten him and his reply was “because I used a bad word last night, I used the N-word.”

I asked if I could take a picture of him and before he gave an answer this is what I got.

Original story

If you really want to know someone’s honest opinion on religion, sex or race, I suggest speaking with them while they are drinking, a lot, because while they are intoxicated they are unable to filter their TRUE thoughts.

Sitting at a local bar in town Saturday night, this heavily intoxicated Caucasian man sat next to me and immediately introduced himself as Kai “Smith” then he changed “Smith” to “Jones.”

After introducing himself, Kai told me that his wife left him and moved to California with her psychiatrist.  He also found it necessary to tell me that after his wife left he was forced to sell his $1.3 million home at 19 Ridge Brook Road because he couldn’t afford to make the mortgage payments.

Immediately after sharing his financial situation with me, Kai decided to tell me about his criminal activities, at which time I warned him that I was a blogger and it was quite possible that I might share his story with my followers.

Kai says go right ahead and write whatever you want to, and by the way, “you are not a nigger like the others.”

Completely shocked by his racist comment I asked Kai to repeat what he had just said and the idiot did, but this time he added a little more.  Kai asked me if I knew this black prominent woman from town, whom he named.  I am not sure why I said “yes” to this question, but after I did he told me: “she is also not a nigger.”

Jumping up from my bar stool I said to Kai, “I am going to knocked the shit of you if you continue to use that word.”

Kai says to me: “but you are not one of them.  You and [the other woman] are not.  It is a compliment to you both.”  Then he went straight into his criminal background and in between telling me how much he hates his father.

“Me and two nigger prostitutes went into the Chase bank on West Putnam Ave,” Kai told me.  “They called the police claiming that I tried to cash a check with false identification.”

Not wanting to hear anymore of his bigotry, I stopped him, said a few colorful things to him then I left the bar.

I did my research on Kai, and this is what I found.

Fifty-four year old Kai, whose real name is Kai Hedbabny, grew up at 111 Porchuck Road.  He married his wife in 1991 and in July 1997 they purchased a 2,531-sq feet 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom ranch at 19 Ridge Brook Road for $720,000

In 2009, Kai’s wife filed for divorce and in 2010 they sold their home for $1,325.00

In December 2011, Kai was arrested and charged with second-degree falsely reporting an incident and second-degree breach of peace after telling a Chase bank employee that a crime was in progress.

On November 21, 2013, Kai was arrested and charged with criminal trespass and failure to appear.   A homeowner on Garden Place told police they came home to find a drunken Kai, who lived at that address six months ago, in the living room.

On December 3, 2013, Kai was arrested, again, and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs, following too closely, and failure to appear.

Kai is scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Stamford at 10:00 a.m. on April 11, 2014 to plea on both charges.

So here you have Mr. Hedbabny’s story.  Oh yes, I forgot to mention this, Kai is currently teaching karate to children in Greenwich, and yes, some of his students are African Americans.

I am desperately searching for a picture of Mr. Hedbabny and as soon as I find one I will post it!!!

Update: 4/18/14

Police now believe the hostage situation that was called in to headquarters was a hoax.

Around 8:00 p.m. Thursday someone called 911 claiming they had a weapon and were holding several hostages in the Round Hill Road.

Police set up perimeter around the house and after numerously unsuccessful efforts to contact someone inside they entered the home.  They found no one inside and sign of foul play.

Sometime during the night they were able to contact the homeowner, who was away.  The homeowner confirmed that no one was supposed to the be in the house.

Police are now searching for the person who placed the call.

Update:

Around 11:26 p.m. Greenwich Police tweeted that “Round Hill Road is open. Officers are clearing the scene of the investigation. The case remains open while more facts are gathered no arrest.”

Update:

There are reports that the hostage situation is at 641 Round Hill Road.  According to records, 641 Round Hill Road is owned by Kevin and Debra Cooney.  The Cooney’s purchased the 4906 square foot single family home with 4 bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms in 2000 for $1,325,000.

According to police records, Kevin M. Cooney, 56, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless driving  in December 2012.

Officers were dispatched to the area of Field Point Road and Elm Street after Chief of Police James Heavey reported that he had observed a vehicle traveling south on Brookside Drive with heavy front end damage and riding on its left front rim.

After officers located the vehicle and stopped it, they observed Cooney exhibiting signs of intoxication. He was administered a field sobriety test, which he reportedly failed.

Cooney was sentenced to 6 Months Jail, Execution Suspended, Probation 18 Months.

Original story

Greenwich police closed the upper part of Round Hill Road Thursday evening after receiving reports that someone was holding hostages inside a home at gunpoint.

Police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray said he could not confirm nor denied” the reports; however, he did say there was a “serious criminal matter” in the 600 block of Round Hill Road.

Former GMA co-host Joan Lunden announced she has breast cancer

Former Good Morning America co-host Joan Lunden announced earlier today that she has breast cancer.

Joan LundenThe sixty-three year old Greenwich resident made the announcement on both her blog and the ABC show, which she co-anchored from 1980 through 1997,

Speaking with current co-host Robin Roberts, who herself has battled cancer in recent years, Lunden called her cancer “the aggressive kind” and said she is beginning treatments shortly, including chemotherapy.

Lunden said her cancer was missed during a mammogram but was discovered during an ultrasound.

“Two weeks ago I went for my annual mammogram as I do every year religiously, and thankfully it was all clear.  That is always the moment where I feel I can breathe again.  However for women who have dense fibrous breast tissue, as I do, often our doctors will recommend an ultrasound as well.  My ultrasound that day revealed a tumor in my right breast.  After a core biopsy was performed, I heard those words that every woman fears and that I never thought I’d hear: ‘you have breast cancer.’”

It is believed that Brian Macken overdosed on cocaine Saturday night.

Original story

August 18, 2010

Authorities in Greenwich, Connecticut arrested a Riverside teen and charged him with operating a drug factory out of his parent’s home.

Based on a tip that led to a two month investigation, police raided the Birdsong Place home belonging to the parents of 19-year-old Brian Macken. Two grams of marijuana and other paraphernalia along with scales, baggies and a fake I.D were discovered inside the home.

Macken was also charged with second-degree forgery and risk of injury to a minor after authorities found drugs hidden in his younger brother’s bedroom.

While police were still at Macken’s home, they intercepted several calls from other teens looking to purchase drugs.  The interception led to the arrest of Greenwich Steven Lico, 19; and Michael Middleburg, 19; and eighteen-year-old John Hayward from White Plains, NY.

According to the police report, Lico was charged with possession of marijuana under four ounces, criminal attempt at possession of marijuana, second-degree forgery and possession of liquor by a minor.

The drama finally ends for Greenwich resident Gary Ryder

$
0
0

For two full years Greenwich residents Gary Ryder and his estranged lover Frank Verkaik were the talk of the town.  Two rich white gay guys with four adopted boys, two black and two white, and with the exception of the youngest boy, the three older ones were always getting into trouble.

When Ryder and Verkaik broke up they did it big.  Just about every day one was calling the police on the other, neighbors became involved and friends took sides.  The only sense of normalcy in their Round Hill home was the male nanny from Trinidad and Tobago who brought some calmness and peace in the chaotic household.

The last time Greenwich residents heard from Ryder and Verkaik was in 2004 when Verkaik, who had moved to Vermont with two of the couple’s adopted children, called police to say his 16-year-old son, who had taken the train to Greenwich for the weekend, had been missing.

Verkaik told police that his other son had told him that the missing teenager was at Ryder’s Backcountry mansion.

Greenwich police Officers Andrew Kelly and Robert Smurlo went to Ryder’s gated home to question him about the missing teenager.  Ryder told the officers that his son was not with him and gave them an address, where he thought the teenager might be.  The officers checked the address supplied by Ryder but the teenager was there.

Officers Kelly and Smurlo returned to Ryder’s home later that day and this time Ryder was not at home.

The officers later wrote in their report that when they returned to Ryder’s home they looked through a first floor window and found the home in disarray. Thinking that something was wrong, the officers entered the home and saw a dark figure behind a frosted bathtub shower door.  Thinking it was the missing teenager; the officers opened the shower door and found a 7-foot crocodile staring at them.

Police arrested Ryder and charged him with misdemeanor possession of a reptile and felony risk of injury to a minor.

Ryder, who said he purchased the reptile online, pleaded no contest to the reptile possession charge in 2006 and paid a $35 fine. He however, retained his right to appeal the charges.

Prosecutors had dropped the risk of injury to a minor charge.

One night Ryder packed up his family and moved out of town, but that was not the last that Greenwich residents heard from Ryder.

For several years Ryder battled Greenwich Police in Court saying the officers illegally entered his home. He also tried to sue them for millions of dollars, but that lawsuit went nowhere.  Meanwhile, back at his Backcountry mansion, Ryder placed a big “PRIVATE PROPERTY NO TREPESSING” signs of both gates of his million dollar mansion.

Finally, Ryder got his just due in court this week.

Wednesday, the state Supreme Court ruled that the officers illegally entered Ryder’s home in August 2004.  The 4-2 decision ordered a lower court to judge to dismiss the criminal case, criticizing Justice Dennis G. Eveleigh for his decision on the officer’s actions.

Ryder told the media on Wednesday that he learned a lot about the law over the past seven years and if prosecutors should appeal, he is ready to take the matter to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Hopefully this is the last we will hear from Ryder and Verkaik!

Update: 5/19/12

An additional charge has been filed against Greenwich Police Officer Donnell “Dee” Fludd.

Officer Fludd made a brief appearance in court on Friday where he was arraigned on first-degree unlawful restraint.

The new charge was added to a list of offenses that Fludd’s former girl has accused him of.

The 32-year-old victim, who is an employee at Walgreens in Old Greenwich, claims that Fludd, who is currently on paid leave from the GPD, attacked her in her building elevator.

Update: 2/23/12

CORRECTION……Officer Fludd is NOT married.

Update: 2/21/12

When I just wrote about this story back in December 2011 I refused to identified the officer, but now that the officer has been arrested I will reveal his name.

Officer Donnell Fludd was arrested on Monday and charged with second-degree stalking, second-degree harassment and disorderly conduct.

Although he has been arrested, 43-year-old Officer Fludd is still innocent until proven guilty.

Original story

A junior Greenwich police officer was suspended with pay while authorities investigate allegations of harassment.

Greenwich Diva Productions have decided not to release the officer’s name at this time.

Sources say the alleged victim, who was in a romantic relationship with the married officer, filed a complaint with the Greenwich Police Department claiming that after she ended the affair the officer, who has several children, began following her around.

It is believed that the officer was suspended last month; however, it is not clear when she filed the complaint.

Tina Pray tells The Daily Beast that she dated Real Housewives of DC husband Tareq Salahi

$

Just when you think fame seeker Tareq Salahi was out of the spotlight, Greenwich resident Tina Pray resurrected him in an interview with The Daily Beast.

Notorious bad girl Natasha Justina “Tina” Pray spoke with Diane Dimond from The Daily Beast about her relationship with White House crasher Tareq Salahi.

Not sure why Tina, with her own troubles, would want to get involved with this train wreck of a man; however,  in an interview with The Beast, the twice divorced mother-of-two said she met Tareq in White Plains, New York, at a thank you dinner given by state Senator Greg Ball.

Tina said she was a “volunteer for the campaign so I was invited…and Tareq was there too…..after we began to talk he stayed by my side the entire evening.”

She claims that Tareq invited her to his hotel room for a nightcap and according to The Beast, “the relationship quickly turned intimate.”

The article says that Tareq left the following morning and returned to his home in Virginia with plans to fly to California for business.  When his California plans fell through, Tareq came to Greenwich to see her.

Tina, who says she is shooting a reality show for Bravo said “In hindsight, maybe it wasn’t me he was so eager to see but rather to be present in my home when Bravo shot.”  She said she had told him that Bravo was coming to her house to shoot a reality show.

Read the rest of Tina\’s interview with the Beast

Why would Tina go to the media to discuss Tareq knowing there are many skeletons living in her own closet?

Back in November 2009 Tina was charged in an art insurance fraud scheme after she allegedly tried to trick her stepfather, Richard Ford, into cooperating with a plan to collect nearly $60,000 from an insurance company.

It was later revealed that Tina had sold the Victor de Grailly painting at auction in 2007, and then later tried to convince Ford that the painting had been stolen from his home, where it had been on display.

Tina escaped prosecution after all of a sudden she remembered giving the proceeds from the missing artwork, which she was convinced was stolen, but later admitted to selling it at auction after the auction house provided the authorities with paperwork that had her signature, to a charity.

Then there was that other scandal with the Brunswick boy……

Greenwich Dr. Laurence Kirwan arrested after wife said he beat her and her daughter in their Backcountry mansion

A leading plastic surgeon was arrested by Greenwich police last week after his estranged wife told officers he attacked her and her daughter inside their Backcountry home.

Dr. Laurence Kirwan, who has offices in New York, Connecticut and England, was arrested by Greenwich police last Friday and charged with third degree assault and disorderly conduct.

He was also ordered to stay away from his wife.

Officers responding to a domestic dispute called at the doctor’s Backcountry mansion found his forty-year-old wife, Chelsea Chapman Kirwan, and her 18-year-old daughter, Tailor Dortona, suffering from minor injuries.

Chapman-Kirwan told officers her 60-year-old estranged husband had attacked her and her daughter from a previous relationship, inside their Sterling Road home.  She said he fled while she was on the phone with the 911 operator.

After learning that a warrant was issued for his arrest, Kirwan surrendered to police.

Greenwich police were called to a home on Mayfair Lane by a house guest who said her estranged husband forced his way inside and snatched their 3-year-old daughter.

The call was placed by Andrea Wainer, who until May of this year, was living with her banker husband, Fred Skolnick, and their five children in Singapore.

The home at 26 Mayfair Lane, is owned by Deborah and Hugh Hall, longtime friends of Andrea Wainer.

According to legal documents filed by Skolinck in Brooklyn Federal Court, he and his estranged wife were in the middle of setting up a custody agreement, when Wainer fled the Asian city with their five children.

The former Goldman Sachs and Lehman Brothers banker said his estranged wife returned to the U.S., and was hiding out in the Hall’s vacation home in Maine.

Skolnick, originally from Long Beach, Long Island, returned to the U.S. and went directly to Maine court, where he filed paperwork claiming that his kids were in the care of Deborah Hall, whom he said has a substance abuse and alcohol problem.

The judge granted Skolnick custody of his children saying “[they were] in jeopardy of serious harm due to Andrea Wainer leaving them in the sole care of a person whom she knows has a substance abuse and alcohol problems and who in the past has exhibited dangerous and risky behavior with the children.” However, by the time Skolnick got to the Maine house, his wife and kids were all gone.

Wainer and the kids had driven to Greenwich, where they were locked up in the Hall’s home at 26 Mayfair Lane.

Last Friday, Skolnick went to the Hall’s home to get his children and left with his 3-year-old daughter.

According to Wainer’s lawyer, Phil Russell, Skolnick forced his way “through the front door and snatched the only child who wasn’t fast enough or strong enough to get away from him.”

Russell said the child was not even wearing shoes.

Wainer, who claims that her husband abused her in Singapore, called the police then immediately went to Stamford Superior, where she filed for an order of custody and a full protective order against Skolnick, which were both granted.

As of press time the 3-year-old girl was still with Skolnick.

Deborah Hall, who until April of this year, was in the middle of divorcing her husband Hugh.  As for her assault case, she is a court date scheduled for April 9, 2014
